Ama Dablam Expedition

Mount Ama Dablam is a beautiful mountain, located almost due south of Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse in the Khumbu region. It is a steep pyramid of ice with vertical walls and sharp, exposed ridges. Mount Ama Dablam forms a lasting impression on many trekkers in Nepal, as it is perhaps the most stunning mountain along the popular trekking route to Everest Base Camp.

Join us on our expedition to climb Asia’s most famous rock and ice climb, Ama Dablam in the Everest region. This climb is also ideal preparation for other high altitude expeditions like Cho Oyu, one of the easier 8,000m mountains. Ama Dablam is a challenging and technical mountain involving difficult rock climbing at extreme altitude, so it is not suitable for beginners and you’ll need to have had some rock climbing experience beforehand as well as altitude mountain experience.

Our ascent will be made via the SW ridge route, a technical route with three camps above base camp. The climb usually completed in less than four weeks. The climbing on the route involves pure rock climbing on exquisite granite followed by mixed snow and rock climbing. The last section to the summit involves ice climbing followed by a long steep snow slope up to the summit.

All climbers need to have really good skills of rock and ice climbing and be technically competent to join this Ama Dablam expedition. On most parts of the climbing routes, there will be fixed ropes, however, all climbers should have a good knowledge and practice of the skills of climbing on steep rock and hard compact ice.

Private trek or group option

We can organise this trek on a private basis for groups of friends, families, clubs, charities or any other group. Depending on your previous trekking experience, you may want a Climb High leader or have no ‘leader’ but sill use the help of one of our guides and/or porters. Costs for this option are available on demand but are often not a huge amount greater than joining one of our ‘fixed departures’. Please contact us with your referred dates and itinerary and we’ll give you a quote.

The guides and their Sherpa assistants will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if necessary.
