Kusum Kangru

Trip Overview:

Kusum Kangru 6,367m is categorized as a trekking peak of Khumbu, but this peak throws mountaineering challenges that are above the level of other peaks falling in the category. A set of three summits crown this mountain and its name has been derived from a Sherpa phrase meaning three snow gods. These three gods denote the three summit points of the mountain, which stands to the east of the Dudh Koshi River and to the west of the Hinku valley, making the border between them. Early on the trail to Everest Base Camp trek via Jiri, the glimpses of the mountain lure the visitors.

Being a difficult mountain, Kusum Kangru ascent is a good platform to test the endurance and skill for every aspiring mountaineer. Besides, the trek to its base camp and return from it offers an opportunity to explore the Everest region through novel routes and new vantage points. First climbed successfully in 1979 A.D., only less than half of Kusum Kangru climbing attempts have met with success in climbing the peak. The mountain was initially climbed from the south-west face, but various new routes were subsequently explored.
