In order to make the journey even more fulfilling, the government has taken many measures. Currently, in Nepal, the yearly tourists turnover has reached new heights. So much so, preventive measures have been taken to preserve these sites from being misused. In this study, we will learn about Langtang Trek, a popular trek to the mountains. Nepal is a magical country. Though considered a third world country, it is well known as one of the best tourist destinations in the world. Quite rightly so too. There are many places to visit if one is looking for a religious journey. There are many temples and monasteries scattered around the country. The lakes are wonderful destinations for a peaceful evening. But tourism in Nepal has been dominated by adventure activities. In 2019, the tourist toll has taken a massive increment for people visiting to venture into the mountains.

Nepal has a very busy tourism department. Most importantly tourism holds the spot for the main source of income for the economy of Nepal. Steps are taken by the government, as well as the people to conserve the tourist destinations mainly the mountain region of the Himalayas. There are Conservation Acts and Preventive authorities for certain regions. There are also permits and entrance fees required to venture into certain areas. All of this, just to make sure that people have a wonderful trip. At the same time preserve those areas.

Langtang Trek: Intro

Langtang valley is the closest Himalayan valley from Kathmandu allowed for trekking. One can explore the remote region after a few hours drive from the main city. The people in the Langtang regions mainly follow Buddhism, and the culture is similar to that of Tibet. Due to the remoteness and the natural beauty of the valley, it is one of the best tourist destinations. Nearest to Kathmandu as well. The trekking trail leads you through a variety of rhododendron and bamboo filled forests. Vast open landscapes are similar to the terrain in Tibet. Breath-taking views of the mountains and a variety of birds and animals.

Langtang Trek begins with a drive to Dhunche. Langtang valley is hidden between the Himalayas, 200 km from Kathmandu. The trail is on some easy path and gives trekkers an authentic mountain experience. The trail takes you across many naturally sprouting waterfalls and glaciers. We come across several ancient monasteries and many wonderful viewpoints on our way. Out of which, Kyanjin Ri and Tserko Ri give the best views around.

Places to travel in Langtang trek?

The Langtang journey starts at Kathmandu, where the headquarters of Climb High is located. After halting for two days for necessary paper works and short sightseeing, we drive to Dhunche. The next day the trekking starts, and the first stop is Syabrubesi. From there on we make our way to Lama Hotel. From Lama Hotel we venture on through the Langtang valley towards Langtang village.

Next, we make our way to Kyanjin Gumba where we have an acclimatization session the whole day the next day. After a day of exploring, we make our way back to Lama Hotel. From Lama Hotel, we hike towards Syabrubesi via sherpa Gaon. then finally back to Kathmandu to mark the end of your journey.

13 Days 12 Nights Itinerary for Langtang Trek

A climb high staff will pick you up from the airport and escort you to your hotel in Kathmandu. After check-in, you can rest for a while. In the evening we will conduct a brief session on the importance of acclimatization in the Himalayas. As acclimatization is important to avoid sickness at high altitudes. No further activities for the day.

The next day, we explore the city of Kathmandu. Our guide will take you through the city to visit the famous Pashupatinath temple, a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple stands beside the sacred Bagmati river. Then we head towards Boudhanath Stupa, the biggest Buddhist Stupa in the world. If time allows, we can also visit the Swayambhunath Temple, another temple masterpiece. In the evening, we will complete the necessary paperwork necessary for the trip.

In the morning, we have a hearty breakfast and get into the cab taking us to Dhunche(1950m). It is a 7-8 hour drive on the northern highway, with twists and turns. The drive is through picturesque terrains, wonderful Himalayan scenery, and many small villages. We also come across magnificent views of Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and other smaller ranges. Upon reaching we will check in the lodge at Dhunche to rest for the night.

Our trekking starts this day. We make our way through a bumpy off road to Thulo Bharku. It is a small village inhabited by the Tamang community. We go past an ascending trail through a rhododendron forest. Till we reach a wonderful picnic spot right in the apple field. The views of Ganesh Himal and the Tibetan Mountain range is marvelous. After having our lunch we descend for about 2 hours to reach Syabrubesi(2210m). Syabrubesi is a large Tamang village. We rest for the night at a lodge there.

After breakfast, we make our way to Lama Hotel (2500m). The trail takes a dip towards a small village where we need to cross the Langtang river via a suspension bridge. We reach a forest filled with oak, rhododendron and bamboo trees. Animals are also plenty in this forest. We can come across yellow-throated martens, wild boars, langurs, red pandas, and the Himalayan black bear. We continue descending through the forest then follow the trail uphill towards Pairo. It is a small village with a few lodges and tea houses. A little further up the trail, we reach Lama Hotel.

We continue further ahead, and this time we hike towards Langtang (3430m). From hereon, the walk is mostly uphill. We first walk uphill along the left bank of Langtang river, basically a forest. It is filled with hemlocks, maples and rhododendron trees. We continue through it to reach Ghoda Tabla(2970m). The trail then takes a deserted turn as we continue our ascent up the Langtang valley. After a few prayer wheels and several water-driven mills, we reach Langtang village. He halts for the night at a Lodge here.

Today, we make our way through the village and climb uphill past a Chorten and Mani walls. Once you reach the riverbed, the trail tales a u-turn taking you to Kyanjin Gumba(3830m). It is a short hike and you can spend the afternoon exploring the area after lunch. We can visit the Kyanjin Glacier and the Kyanjin monastery there. You can also enter the Yak cheese factory to taste the cheese and yogurt sold there. The acclimatization session is up for grabs and we spend the night at a tea house in the village.

This day, we have our acclimatization session at Kyanjin. We rise up early in the morning to avoid missing the view. We visit Kyanjin Ri (4850m) and Tserko Ri(5000m) where we get the best views of the snow-capped mountains. We also get spectacular views of Langtang Lirung, Langtang range, Kinshung, Yansa Tsenji, and the huge Langtang Lirung Glacier. We return back to the village for lunch and you can spend the rest of the day exploring the valley. No further activities for the day.

After submerging ourselves to the beauty of the village, we make our way back to Lama Hotel. We retrace the steps we took the day before, and it is all downhill from here. On the way, we can enjoy fantastic views of the towering mountains. You can take it slow if you missed anything before. Once we reach Lama hotel, we will have our lunch and you spend the remaining day exploring the village. Rest at the lodge.

In the morning we have breakfast. Then we continue our trek through the sloping hillside. After a while, the trail ascends as we make our way to Brindhim village. Here you can get a great view of Ganesh Himal range, Tibet range and splendid view of the valley. We have our lunch then head downhill. This time, we reach the confluence of the Langtang River and Bhote Koshi river before reaching Syabrubesi village. We rest for the night at a lodge there.

After breakfast, we take a short hike to the village of Dhunche. The trail is seamlessly plain though bumpy before we reach the village. The trekking trail is the same which we took at the beginning of the trek. As we make our way to Dhunche, you can be assured your trek has come to an end. We spend the remaining day, resting and strolling around Dhunche. Rest for the night.

In the morning, we have breakfast, then we take a cab saying farewell to the Himalayas and back to civilization. The highway is the same one which we took before, amidst views of the mighty snow-capped peaks and surrounding hills. Past villages till we reach the hotel in Kathmandu. A trip well taken, we rest for the day. In the evening, we will have a farewell dinner of delicious Nepalese cuisine.

The following morning, we say our final goodbyes and hopes to see you again. Depending on your flight schedule take you to the airport a few hours before departure time. You can also leave your feedback before you depart.

Which is the best time to visit Langtang?

The best seasons to trek to Langtang is during autumn and spring. Autumn is from September to December and spring stretches from March to May. The weather is warm and the heat is bearable. There will be very little or no rainfall. The sky will be clear allowing you to get the best view of the mountains. Apart from that, the trail is also in good condition and there is fewer chances for landslides or avalanches.
